    How to Make Keşkül, a Favorite of the Turkish Table?

    Keşkül is one of the most popular milk desserts of the Turkish Table. It is one of the most delicious recipes that came to our kitchen from the Ottoman table. Although Keşkül seems light, it is actually high in calories and is a very nutritious and energizing dessert. It is possible to say this easily, considering the ingredients such as coconut, rice flour and starch.

    The nutritional aspect of the keşkül dessert, also known as keşkül-ü poor, offers us the opportunity to remember the history of the recipe. The word “Keşkül” actually means a container made of coconut. During the Ottoman period, judges and dervishes walked among the people disguised as beggars and tried to understand their troubles and difficulties.

    They used these coconut containers while begging. The money collected was given to soup kitchens and this nutritious dessert was distributed to the poor people in these containers. Keşkül, which has managed to survive from the Ottoman table to the present day with its delicious taste, got its name from being distributed in containers called keşkül.

    The word Keşkul is originally a Persian word and means “milk pudding with coconut”. Coconut, which gives the dessert its name and is one of its indispensable ingredients, is a complete energy store. Coconut provides energy to the body by burning fat.

    It also has a feature that suppresses the feeling of hunger and reduces appetite. Coconut food and recipes containing coconut help a person stay resilient without eating. Let’s add that the water contained in coconut is also very beneficial for health. Coconut water is extremely nutritious with the oils it contains.

    Let’s not forget to mention two more indispensable ingredients of Keşkül dessert. Rice is one of the ingredients that contribute to the energizing aspect of the keşkül dessert. Rice provides carbohydrates to the body. So, rice is one of the major food sources that provide you with energy for your daily routines.

    Similar things can be said for starch made from potatoes. Potato is one of the foods that is extremely rich in energy. With its dense minerals and vitamins, potatoes are a nutrient that will cause a burst of energy. This situation is the reason why Keşkül dessert

    This is one of the reasons why it became widespread as the “poor vaccine” during the Ottoman period. Today, it continues to be on our tables with its sought-after taste. Now that we have talked about the history and prominent aspects of Keşkül dessert, we can start making our dessert.

    How to Make Keşkül?
    Materials

    5 cups of milk
    1 tea glass of almond powder (optional)
    1 tea glass of coconut powder
    1 tablespoon rice flour
    2 tablespoons of starch
    1 glass of sugar
    1 egg yolk
    1 pack of sugar vanillin

    Service

    Peeled almonds
    Crushed hazelnuts
