Tulumba Dessert holds its roots deep within Turkish culinary heritage, tracing back to the era of the Ottoman Empire. Originally crafted with meticulous care in palace kitchens for royalty, it gradually became a beloved treat among the general populace. This dessert, characterized by its fried, tube-shaped dough soaked in syrup, embodies an integral part of Ottoman culinary tradition. Tulumba reflects the rich sweet legacy of Turkish cuisine and remains a cherished delight enjoyed in Turkey and beyond to this day.

    Ingredients for Tulumba Dessert Recipe:

    For the dough:

    2 cups water
    2.5 cups flour
    1 tablespoon butter
    1 teaspoon granulated sugar
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    3 eggs
    3 tablespoons semolina
    1 tablespoon lemon juice

    For the syrup:

    3 cups sugar
    3 cups water
    2 tablespoons lemon juice
Optionally, add 2 packets of vanilla or 1 teaspoon cinnamon for flavor.

    For frying:

    Sunflower oil

    Tulumba Dessert Tips:

    – Start by preparing the syrup and let it cool completely. It should have a thick consistency.
    – Allow the dough to rest before adding the eggs.
    – Add the eggs one by one to the dough, mixing well after each addition.
    – Fry the desserts over low heat slowly. High heat will result in undercooked interiors.
    – You can cut the dough into your desired size.
    – It’s recommended to use sturdy piping bags to prevent tearing.
    – You can also make ring-shaped desserts with the same dough.
